The ‘Till Nuts’ are a group of Australian tillandsia lovers who share their growing techniques, achievements and failures.

Till Nuts meet biennially, usually at Easter time for a mini conference called the Tillandsia Participation Event. This meeting is kept quite small, up to 25 persons, at which each attendee is required to lead a presentation – which is the “Participation” of the title. It is a chance for them to interact and swap with growers from around the country – as well as one from New Zealand – which is difficult to do with the distances between the members of the group.

Easter 2008 was to be Till Nuts meeting time. As the World Bromeliad Conference is being held this year we have decided to have the meeting in Cairns, at the conference venue on Wednesday 25th June from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

There will be growers from overseas attending the main conference who will also be available for this Till Nuts meeting, some of whom are well known as expert in the tillandsia genera being habitat collectors, hybridizers and book authors.

This year we have decided to digress from the normal rules and allow other interested parties to attend this meeting as onlookers rather than participators. This has generated good support from tillandsia lovers who previously have not been able to attend for many reasons, some being cost of travel, time off from employment, inability to cope with making a presentation and other commitments. Each society is requested to inform their members and encourage them to attend.

The charge to attend will be $70 per person and this charge includes morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch. Those choosing to attend should contact me by 1st May.
